North Dakota State Fair

North Dakota State Fair

2011
This year i am super excited to go to the Minot State Fair this will be my first year actually going to any of concerts if everything goes as planned.I have always wanted to go and experience what it would be like, the concerts are cheaper than they would be if you went to Winnipeg or somewhere like that. I especially want to go see Lady Antebellum and Kid Rock I think that they would be awesome to see live. The whole fair starts on Friday July 22 and goes until Saturday July 30. The schedule for the concerts are: Tracy Lawrence opening it up on July 22, Kid Rock with Sheryl Crow on July 23, Lady Antebellum July 24, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band July 27, Charlie Daniels Band July 28, Toby Keith July 29, and Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo performing on the last day July 30. My oldest sister's boyfriend is from Minot so he was the one that was interested in talking about taking her down there and he approved of me going down with them. I was stoked when he told me that I could join them, I really want to take a friend along with me but i won't push it right yet. Greg (my sister's boyfriend) has looked into buying the Grandstand Showpass which gets you into Tracy Lawrence, Lady Antebellum, Charlie Daniels band, and Toby Keith for one price. My fingers are crossed everything goes as planned, and that it's a great time !

May Long Weekend.

May Long!
This may long weekend really started my summer off! This was my first year since grade eight where I didn't have club volleyball nationals. I was fairly excited to get out with my friends and meet up with friends from the lake again. Friday seemed to go by so slow, it felt like the last day of classes before summer all over again. Everyone was anxious and just wanting to get on with their plans. I knew a lot of people were planning on going out to the familiar Oak Lake beach. This year the weather was super unpredictable. Friday night it was nice out for the most part, seen as how the weather was nice there was a lot of people out socializing and having a good time. It was a great start to the weekend and to summer in general. Meanwhile there really isn't a beach there at the moment because of all the flooding and it washed away the whole main beach, so for that reason the beach area was blocked off for safety precautions. Saturday night on the other hand wasn't very good, it was raining all night and the cops showed up and was kicking everyone back to their campsites or cabins because of complaints reported. So because of that it was a fairly early night for everyone. Sunday was a repeat of Friday night, the weather was great compared to the Saturday night and everyone was back out ready to have a good time. I caught up with quite a few old friends that i hadn't seen since the end of last summer. Most of the people that were out were all tired from the nights before so everyone kinda went in rather early compared to how it usually is. But overall it was a wonderful weekend. There was a lot of fun, memories, and new friend ships created from the first weekend of what i consider summer !

Victoria Day celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th). Canada is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, of which the Queen is head.

Victoria Day is always on a Monday, and thus the holiday is part of a long weekend, which is commonly referred to as the Victoria Day Weekend, the May Long Weekend, the May Long, or the May Two-Four (a case of beer there is called a "two-four" and many of these are consumed over the holiday). The weekend is also called the May 24th weekend, although it does not necessarily fall on May 24th.

The Victoria Day Weekend always falls on the weekend before Memorial Day in the U.S.

The Victoria Day Weekend is the first popular weekend for spring / summer travel. Lots of people open up their cottages, plant gardens, or just get away. Expect crowds at resorts and hotels and busy highways. Fireworks displays are common, especially on Monday night.

Banks, schools, many stores and restaurants are closed on the Monday. Call ahead to find out about other attractions and tourist spots. Public transportation will run on a holiday schedule.

Clear Lake Past Experiences

Clear Lake!
As a kid growing up, my family and I went up to clear lake on a regular basis every year. We had the same cabin since I remember, until the one year they decided that they were going to renovate it to make it more up to date. So that year we had to stay in a different cabin but in the same area on the same side. In our area we had a pool separating two sides of cabins and and then more along the other side of each row. It was a fairly large area but was still super quiet which was nice. It was only took a few minutes to walk into the park where all the stores and shops were. Every morning I would walk down to the bake shop where they had the most amazing cinnamon buns around, and take them back before anyone was awake usually. There were some pretty crazy things that happened there, I seen a few bears and cubs within the time that we were down there. The one day I was walking my dog back to the cabin, when this guy came up and told me that I better hurry back to safety because there has been two black bears spotted not far from where I was. I was absolutely terrified so I quickly ran back with my dog Sadie to the cabin and told my family that we'd better stay inside for awhile. As a family we would go down to airplane bay which was a 10 minute drive if the weather was nice. Airplane bay is another beach off of the main one, this is where people usually went tubing or boating because it is quieter. They had a very nice park right behind the museum where the they had tennis courts located, newly done huge play center so my two sisters and I always enjoyed going down there for a few hours. After your older you find that they isn't as much to do unless you and some friends go down there to camp or something. But now that my sisters and I are all grown up we find that there really isn't as much fun or entertainment for us down there. Going to Clear Lake as much as I did made so many great memories for me, and even friendships with some of the people that were down there as much as us.

Brandon Summer Fair

Brandon Summer Fair!
Well it's that time of year again, the summer fair! This is a popular time in Brandon for the days of June 8th until June 12th. Many people from all over the place go to enjoy the fairs, and all the fun you have just by being there. I'm not much for rides because I'm absolutely terrified of heights. The one year I went I just dealt with being terrified to try and get over my fear(which never worked), but i went on the ring of fire where it goes all the way around upside down and everything. Meanwhile when we were upside down i realized that the ride was meant to fit all sizes, and me being small could have very easily fell out of my seat! I was never happier to get off the ride alive. The fair has a lot to offer for a wide range of ages, they have a kids section with all kids rides and then the majority of rides for older teens, adults and such. I would recommend you to go to the fair if you get the chance you will have a great time even if your like me and can't to many rides!

VCI bears fastball to an end.

Fastball 2011

This year our fastball team consisted of 14 players mainly grade tens and elevens. We had one grade nine, and two grade twelves as well. Our team had a good year overall, we all got along great on the diamond and even off the diamond we still got along fairly well. We didn't have a lot time to have team bonding but when we did get the chance it was always a good time. We started the season off with an easy win against Elkhorn. Our first and only tournament was in Portage on the first weekend of May. It was exciting for all of us and sad for some too, it would be the last time our two grade twelves would be competing in this tournament. But we didn't let anything get in our way of going there to show them that we were there to not only compete but to have fun. We weren't expecting to win a whole heck of a lot with the young team we had. But our coaches were very happy with how successful we really were, and how much we improved as a whole. After the Friday we all went out for a team supper at Boston Pizza to team bond. Afterwords we all wanted to go back to the pool at the Canad Inn's. We went back there and ended up having the whole pool to ourselves which was rather nice.We ended off with 4 wins and 2 loses in the whole tournament. Our next league game we traveled to Killarney and competed with a tough team, we couldn't seem to hit off their great left handed pitcher. We ended up losing a tough game but didn't let it get to us. Our next game was back in Melita we were all hitting extremely well and when Melita finally got a hit our fielders wouldn't let it by them. We had merci them no problem and felt a little bit relieved to get back to winning. Our next game was a double header in Virden we were scheduled to play Deloraine first off, and then Bossivain afterwords. Bossivain had always been a tough team so we knew it was going to be a little more competition than what we have seen since Killarney. Deloraine wasn't a problem for our team so we pulled off another merci ! Next up was the Bronco's, we all wanted to beat them extra bad because they have always been so cocky and thought that we wouldn't be tough competition for them. We got at it right away and started hitting, we were up by a few going into the 5th inning. We as fielders had a rough inning in the top of the 5th. But Mr. Roach reassured us to not give up and to keep in the game we could easily get it back within one inning. Sure enough we kept in the game and continued on with the positive attitude, and got right back into the game and came on top. After the exciting back and forth game we came out with the big win for us! We were all excited to see us beat the team that we all wanted to so badly. But seen as how Killarney hadn't lost a game they were still first in our zone, and we were just one loss away from them. Going into League Playoffs we got the buy to play the winner out of Bossivain and Melita. Bossivain had an easy win and they had another chance to come on top. Our team wasn't into it as much as they were, we would hit right to where their fielders were and they would do the exact opposite. So in all we ended our season off with a tough loss.
